4 months!

Cadence is 4 months old today! She is getting so big! I have to say that I am enjoying kiddo #2 a lot more. I feel more relaxed as a mother, and therefore I am able to observe her more and see the subtle things that she learns on a day-to-day basis. It is so much fun. Plus, I still love having a little doll to dress up! She had her 4 month appointment today and here are her stats:
Height: 24.75" (75%)
Weight: 14lbs (75%)
Head: 16.5" (75%)
She is also a ball full of energy. When laying on her back she will goo, and giggle and kick her legs and flap her arms, and roll from side to side. She can roll from her tummy to her back, and is always proud of herself when she does it. She will reach for anything she can, and will immediately put it in her mouth when she gets it. She will smile at anybody who looks at her and she basks in the attention of others. She likes to sit up (with help) and look at the world from that perspective. She is still a good eater and sleeper. I love you Cadence! Here is the link to Keegan's 4 month stats: HERE.

Last Week

So, last week was a bit crazy around here. Keegan actually had mono and was sicker than I have ever seen him before! It came on really fast and hard last weekend. On Saturday he woke up with a slight stuffy nose, but we didn't think anything of it. That night he had a bit of a hard time sleeping, I was up with him till 2am and then Matt slept on his floor the rest of the night, but he woke up on Sunday well enough that we took him to church. We were obviously wrong because he was not acting like himself in nursery and ended up hanging out with us, and then by Sunday school he was in hysterics wanting to go home. We left early and he immediately fell asleep in the car. He was starting to have a hard time breathing when he laid down, but we just assumed it was a bad cold, so we put on the humidifier and gave him some Tylenol (which usually helps). That night was rough. He was up literally every 10 minutes, obviously uncomfortable and not being able to breathe. Matt slept on the floor of his room again, just comforting him when he woke up.
On Monday he was not himself. He was not eating or drinking, and was pretty lethargic, so I decided to take him to the doctor. She looked in his throat and said it looked "nasty," the glands in his neck were so swollen that they stuck out past his jaw and he had an ear infection in one ear. She immediately tested him for strep throat, and when that came back negative, she said she thought it might be mono. Boy was I shocked! I thought that was a disease that only teenagers got! I guess it is actually pretty common, and about 90% of people get it, but are not diagnosed. Wow! She sent us to go get his blood drawn to test for the mono, but the results for that would take a few days and she wasn't going to do anything until she got the results.
Again, that night was rough. Keegan was up literally every 2-3 minutes this time. He was so miserable, and all he wanted to do was sleep, but as soon as he laid down he could not breathe and therefore could not sleep. He was miserable. We finally decided around 4am to take him over to urgent care at Childrens Hospital. Matt took him in and I stayed home with Cadence. They were there for 5 hours observing Keegan and waiting for test results on different blood work. They determined that he didn't have any other problems, so they gave him a steroid to help the swelling in his throat go down and sent him home. As soon as he got home he fell asleep on the couch and slept for 7 hours. It was kind of interesting because when he initially laid down he had labored breathing, and would wake up frequently. But as the time went on we could actually see the steroid taking effect and his breathing getting better. It was so great to see. He woke up and actually ate a little bit, but then went back to bed and slept all night. Whew!
The next day he was still pretty grumpy and uncomfortable so we just hung out around the house and watched movies. The doctor called with the first blood test results which determined that he did have mono, yuck, but just to stay on course with what we were already doing. Keegan took a 4 hour nap and woke up ready to play. Finally Thursday, he was almost back to himself. He only needed Tylenol once, and he took another long nap, but he was 90% better. Friday, he was 95% better and did not need any meds. Saturday, I would say he is back to himself, wahoo!
What a week! It is so hard to watch your children feel miserable and not be able to do anything about it! Somehow I had enough energy to make it through all of those sleepless nights and still take care of both kids during the day. I'm so grateful for Matt and his help through it all, and so glad that he took one day off to take Keegan to the hospital and help out the rest of the day. I am so grateful that Keegan is back to himself, and I hope that none of us catch any part of what he had. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!

Jabber-mouth

Matt says Cadence is not allowed to have a cell phone ... she is already a jabber-mouth.

She is also a thumb sucker, which right now I think is absolutely adorable, but I'm sure I am going to hate it down the road when we have to get her to stop.

Blog Archives

We are running out of room on jeanetteandmatthew.blogspot.com, so I have moved posts from 2008 and 2009 to this new site: jeanetteandmatthew20082009.blogspot.com. There is also a link to the new site at the top right hand corner of our main blog, it is called "All About Keegan 2008-2009". So, don't worry if you don't see all of our old posts, you can still find them ... just at another location!

Our kiddos

These are the two pictures that we have on our bedroom wall and we just look at them and laugh. They are so indicative of each of our childrens personalities. Keegan is our silent boy who likes to sit back and observe the world, while Cadence is super loud and super smiley.

My girl is growing up ...

Cadence rolled over this morning! Woo hoo! She was very surprised when she rolled from her tummy to her back, but she did it a second time right away and that time looked pretty proud of herself! (Hopefully I will get a video soon.)

She also moved out of our closet and started sleeping in her crib in the nursery this weekend! She has been sleeping in a bassinet in our closet since she was born because we were waiting for her to sleep through the night before we put her in the room with Keegan. Well, she had been sleeping through the night for about a week and a half so we decided to make the move this weekend, and both kids did great! On Friday night we set up the monitor and everything so that we could hear if she was stirring and catch her before she woke up Keegan ... but I forgot to turn on the monitor and I didn't realize it till I woke up at 7:30am in the morning! That means that if she woke up: 1) she was able to put herself back to sleep and 2) it didn't wake up Keegan. So, we haven't used the monitor yet, and there have not been any problems yet! Woo hoo! (knock on wood)

Happy Easter

We had a very low-key Easter at our house. It was General Conference weekend, so we didn't go to church. Instead we stayed home and watched the broadcasts online. In the even Grandma and Grandpa Huber and Uncle Monkey came over for a nice ham dinner.
After dinner, Keegan got is very own Easter egg hunt!
I'd say he made out like a bandit! He now asks for
candy/eggs/beans/etc all day long!

Our pretty little girl in her Easter dress :)
Surprisingly, after all of the candy he ate, he didn't have a problem going to bed!
Happy Easter!!

Zoo!

On Saturday we went to the zoo! It was an absolutely gorgeous spring day, and there were surprisingly few people there. So it was the perfect day for the zoo. Keegan had a great time. He told us the names and sounds of all the animals he saw as he ran (or hopped) from exhibit to exhibit.
Keegan also waved to most of the animals. We actually got to hear the elephants trumpet. It was very cool!
Matt can jump as far as a polar bear!
Choo choo! We meant to go back and let KP ride the train, but we were all too pooped at the end. Next time!
He really likes "hippo's" right now. In the Dr. Seuss book "Mr. Brown can Moo, Can You?" Mr. Brown does the noise of a hippopotamus chewing gum ... GRUM, GRUM, GRUM. So, that is the noise that KP makes for a hippo. Cute huh?
