Mothers Day Weekend

Last weekend we took a road trip to Salt Lake to visit Matt's folks for Mothers Day. We left after work on Thursday and headed to Grand Junction. It seems to work well for us to do 1/2 of the trip before bedtime and then the other 1/2 in the morning. The kids did GREAT! During past trips the kids have had a hard time settling-in at the hotel, but this time there was no problem. I think they were both just happy for everybody to be in the same room.
Friday morning we drove the 2nd half of the way and got into SLC in the early afternoon. Grandpa had been saving his pennies, and the very first thing we did was to go throw them into the many fountains around the temple grounds.
We enjoyed all of the beautiful flowers that are blooming for spring, and just spent the afternoon walking around enjoying the day. For dinner we went to the Lion House and enjoyed some yummy food, and of course yummy rolls with honey butter. My favorite!
Then back to the condo for some swimming!
We always went to the pool too late in the evening for Cadence to go in, since it would just take too long to get her bathed afterward. But she sure had fun hanging out with Grandma & Grandpa!
I wanted a family picture in front of the temple that I could put on my wall. I really wanted one in our church clothes, but thought we would take one this day "just in case" something happened and we didn't get one on Sunday. And good thing we did, because it poured on Sunday.
On Saturday, Grandpa had to go into work for a little bit so we went to a local park and played around to pass the time before nap time. While the kids napped, Matt, Grandma and I got to go do a temple session while Grandpa stayed with the kids. That evening for dinner they took us to a yummy Thai restaurant where we got lots of food and shared it all. And of course afterwards, swimming!
Sunday, Mothers Day, was very fun. We got up early and Matt, Grandpa and I went to "The Music and the Spoken Word." It is a broadcast of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and it is the world's longest-running continuous network broadcast, first airing in 1929, and airing every Sunday since then. They did a beautiful Mothers Day broadcast, and an event to be seen.
Afterward we had a relaxing lunch and then all took naps before church. We went to Bill & Eileen's ward, which is made up of mostly senior missionaries, and the women audibly gasped with joy as we brought Keegan and Cadence in. They were excited to see little kids. After church, we had a yummy dinner then put the kids to bed early and enjoyed our evening.

Monday, Matt & Keegan woke up early for a last dip in the pool before hitting the road. We packed up our stuff and stared home. We drove the whole 8 hours, through Wyoming, in one shot, and again the kids did great. They napped the first few hours, then we stopped for lunch and to get wiggles out, then made it home by dinnertime. The DVD player sure saved us a few times, and lots of children's songs on the Ipod helped the rest of the time.

It was a lot of driving for such a short trip, but we are so grateful that we did it and so glad to be able to see Mom & Dad Porter, and that they were able to see the kids. We can't wait till they come home in September! Thanks guys!
