NY State Museum

Today Matt had a floating holiday that he needed to use, so we went to the NY State Museum in Albany and had a great time.

The sign says that 18 million people live in New York State and 7 million people live in NYC. Crazy!!
The kids loved seeing all of the different animals.
When she saw the bear family she said "Mommy bear, Daddy bear, K bear and C bear."
K really got a kick out of the magnifying glass.
C too...
Sitting on bunk beds that Native American Indians would have slept on. K said that it was as comfy as his bed.
Sittin' on a subway car.
Because of the Curious George story where George goes to the museum and knocks over the dinosaur K insists that a museum is not a museum unless it has dino bones. This one had mammoth and whale bones. I guess that was okay too.
My favorite exhibit was about 9-11. It really brought back a lot of memories and feelings. And now as a parent, it affected me stronger. I wanted to read every sign and watch every video that they had there, but of course the kids had no idea what it was about and just wanted to move through. It was amazing to see pieces of the Twin Towers, and they even had bent and twisted pieces of metal from the buildings.
This was a piece of one of the planes that crashed into the towers.
A car door from near the scene. There was SO much stuff. It was pretty amazing.
The kids favorite part was the restored carousel from the 1800's.

I love that museum and it's even better that it's free!

Museums are the BEST, I'm always impressed that they can keep adult's and children's attentions at the same time! We're so glad you introduced us to the Children's museum, we're loving our family pass here.
